Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary
The Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary is a new tourism and conservation facility set within the Anna Bay Koala habitat. The incorporation of high-end ‘glamping’ accommodation and the fees collected through single trip visitors, help fund the operations of the Koala hospital and the ongoing research into the conservation of Koala populations.
A key attraction of the facility is the ‘Casey’ interpretive trail where visitors are taken along the journey of Casey the Koala, recovering from serious injury and the challenges he faces from human interactions. Casey is a metaphor for Koala populations around the country.
Working closely with the project team and the artist, the landscape design responds to the operational needs and the artists intent in regards to how visitors view and interact with the large Koala art forms.
