Situated within the Desert Knowledge Precinct, Alice Springs, the Desert People’s Centre is an educational campus catering for indigenous students from remote central Australia communities. The specifically designed buildings have been arranged to create a campus style precinct that nestles into its landscape setting.

Working closely with the project team, existing trees of cultural importance were retained and incorporated into the landscape design, which is reflective of the desert country through the extensive use of indigenous plants and hardscape materials complimentary to the colours of the desert.

Carefully considered areas of irrigated grass is in contrast the desert character, however, it provides areas for students and staff to comfortably sit and gather outside, offering protection from wind-blown dust. WSUD features are important elements of the landscape design where bioswales, dry creek beds and soaks have been used to capture storm water runoff and return it to the aquifer
